We have lots of great entertainment this year, both on the main stage and around the festival. Listen to live music, watch belly dancing, hooping and medieval arms, demonstrations and even participate in an interactive drum circle. We are very excited about the huge variety of acts and performances planned for the event. So read highlights about some of the performances below, then make sure to check the schedule so you don't miss your favorites! Greybeard and Dawn will be performing first thing on Saturday and Sunday morning, opening the festival with the warm tones of the Native American Flute. A craftsman and hobbyist, Ed lives in central North Carolina with his beautiful soul friend, Dawn. Together, they can be found frequenting local flute circles, music festivals hither and yon, and generally making happy mischief! Be sure to visit him at Tree of Life Designs booth, where they will have not just handcrafted flutes from wood and bamboo, but also hand carved walking sticks, wood spirits, rhythm shakers and rattles, hand turned pendulums, magic wands and more. The Blibbering Humdingers
Based in Cary, NC, The Blibbering Humdingers are a husband/wife duo that play a mix of Neo-retro existential wizard nerd pop with a dash of do-wop, a sprinkle of steampunk and nibble of new wave. A "sound" you ask? Genre? Pishaw! We don't have a sound other than laughter and the sound of magic and the sound of one hand clapping because your other arm has been gnawed off by piranhas. If you're wondering where we got our band name from, then re-read the final chapter (not the epilogue) of Deathly Hallows. Luna pulls a clever "hey is that Elvis?!" to give Harry a chance to slip away. Besides wiz-rock - we also dabble in Steampunk, Dr. Who, Firefly, D&D, general filk, celtic folk, SCA, medieval, renaissance, Star Wars, Star Trek, and other geekness. Afrit Temple Based in Raleigh, NC, Afrit Temple is an electronic music project created by Andrew Shakinovsky with the aim of fusing danceable beats with Middle Eastern stylings. Andrew is also a founding member of a Raleigh based Middle Eastern band called The Lost Nomads. He enjoys playing live music for belly dancers as well as experimenting with sounds from electronic gear and equipment. He has now teamed up with his wife, Amara of Electric Shimmy Bellydance and together they will bring you a new collaboration of music and dance performance focusing on Medieval and Renaissance stylings. Last Trip Home is an Irish Band located in Raleigh North Carolina consisting of Dr. Eric Hahn on Uilleann pipes, flute, whistles, vocals, and bodhrán and Donald Lively on guitar, mandolin and vocals. Dr. Marilyn Wienand Dr. Marilyn Wienand has been a musician all her life. She has studied in Vienna, Austria, and holds degrees in organ and voice, with a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado in Boulder. She was a college professor in voice and class piano for many years. She has been a organist and Choirmaster of several churches. She began playing the harp in 1990 and now makes that the major focus of her life. She owns a beautiful Salvi Aurora pedal harp, a Salvi Egan lever harp and also a 22 string lap harp which her husband built for her. Belly Dancing with Lirima Lirima is a belly dancer of 13 years with training in American Tribal Style, ITS, and Classical Egyptian belly dance. She is a belly dance teacher and is a contributing member of local dance troupes. This is her sixth year dancing at Pagan Pride Raleigh. She will also be leading Belly Dance Workshops on both Saturday and Sunday morning. James Oden James Olin Oden is a dynamic singer/songwriter from Raleigh, NC who plays a vast collection of stirring Scottish, Irish, English and original songs inspired by Celtic and Americana traditions. A passionate storyteller and captivating instrumentalist, he leads us through a musical journey that spans the globe and the epochs of time, with infectious rhythms paying reverent gratitude to the forefathers of folk, flamenco and Appalachian music. Like whiskey warming the soul, his deep, resonant voice is rich with character and his guitar, tin whistle, bones and bodhran (Irish drum) playing is both thrilling and evocative. Fast-paced foot stompers lay gracefully alongside heart-rending airs and ballads, weaving a tapestry of acoustic eloquence that will sweep you away to the lands of legend. One Tribe One Tribe…One Heartbeat…One Sound. One Tribe is a gathering of sounds and rhythms, energy and togetherness. Started off as a side project from local Raleigh gatherings, One Tribe has now taken shape into a journey of musical exploration. Creating not only traditional rhythms, but extending out into multi-cultural landscapes. Multiple people, multiple personalities, multiple instruments…One Purpose…Unity. |
